We
know that providing motivation is as important as providing the
highest quality health care services. When
Christine M. first arrived at Glenwood HealthCare and Rehab, she
couldn't take care of her own basic needs and she didn't seem to
have any interest in learning. But our occupational and physical
therapists, Michelle Henke and Audrey Mroczkowski, knew how to
reach her! They began a program with Christine to get her moving.
At first she could only walk from 3 to 10 feet and even so, she
needed considerable assistance.
But
after just 18 days, what a change in Christine!
She regained her abilities to dress herself and take care of her personal needs.
She began to care about her appearance and her progress. Soon she
could walk more than 150 feet without any assistance at all! Her
mental outlook began to improve as the weeks went by and she told
her therapists, "I am very
happy with my progress." After she was able to return to her
family, Christine thanked the staff at Glenwood. Another
lovely lady came to us depressed and withdrawn. Her family was
terribly worried about her. They told us she would not come out of her
room and she refused to speak in English even though she was
fluent. She needed the help of our caring staff. She needed a
welcoming environment and a friendly group of people to visit with
her. She needed Glenwood HealthCare and Rehab. Lupe,
as we call her affectionately, is now an active participant in
Glenwood's activities. She is out of her room daily and she
communicates fluently with everyone around her. Lupe especially
enjoys going in to the dining halls - mealtime is an
important social time! She walks without assistance and is
able to make her desires understood clearly. She has a special
friend in one of our nurse's aides who visits with her every day.
Lupe looks forward to those visits - she and her caregiver have a
special relationship! We
are a unique community here at Glenwood. And we meet the unique
needs of every resident every day. |
