Inpatient Orthopedic Rehabilitation
Admission Criteria: Many patient candidates for inpatient
orthopedic rehabilitation are of advanced age. Health concerns
associated with aging may prevent the orthopedic surgery patient
from returning home safely.
Our skilled staff is trained to care for the orthopedic surgery
patient with other concerns such as high blood pressure, history
of stroke, cardiac disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, age-related
de-conditioning, and/or arthritis. Of course, patients with less
serious health considerations may still be appropriate for an
inpatient program.
Other inpatient candidates may include younger patients with
multiple bone fractures or complicated fractures, such as those to
the pelvis.
During inpatient orthopedic rehabilitation, each patient works to
return to his or her desired level of independence through
improved strength, improved joint range of motion, assisted or
unassisted walking, self-care training and pain management. Team
members work with patients to meet these goals while managing
medical problems and gauging progress.
Patients enrolled in our inpatient orthopedic rehabilitation
program may stay as little as five full days. Again, the length of
stay for individual patients varies according to their own health
and safety needs.
Follow-Up
The benefits of rehabilitation do not stop after a patient has
successfully demonstrated improved function. Patients may have
some form of long-term disability or simply may be of advanced
age. These patients often have unique care needs. Our Orthopedic
Rehabilitation program provides individuals and families with
continued access to a team of expert rehabilitation professionals.
This team provides a variety of services to help patients regain
or maintain function.
